About Darkroom

Darkroom is the leading next-generation growth marketing firm engineering the brands of tomorrow. Founded in 2017, we set out to redefine what a modern agency could be, by replacing the inertia of legacy advertising behemoths with a model built for speed, intelligence, and measurable impact.

At our core, Darkroom is a human services company powered by Shadow , a universal AI commerce layer that integrates executive-level strategy with proprietary agentic technology. This fusion enables our teams to deliver outsized returns by enhancing creative output, operational efficiency, and revenue generation across every stage of the customer journey.

Our track record speaks for itself: billions in attributable revenue driven across e-commerce marketplaces, media networks, DTC ecosystems, and social commerce platforms. Every engagement feeds into our proprietary data infrastructure, enabling a continuous feedback loop that accelerates growth, improves margins, and compounds results across our client portfolio.

What began as a boutique design studio has evolved into one of the fastest-growing private companies in America (Inc. 5000) and among the most effective performance media agencies of the 2020s (Varos) . Our founders were recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for advancing the intersection of technology, marketing, and advertising, cementing Darkroom’s role as a defining player in the future of media innovation.

About the Role

We are hiring a Retention Specialist — a strategic, hands-on lifecycle marketer with a proven track record in email and SMS for DTC brands. You'll partner closely with Associate Directors of Retention and cross-functional teams to develop and deploy high-performing campaigns for some of the fastest-growing DTC brands in the world — translating data into strategy and strategy into revenue.

Darkroom is a career accelerator for marketers who want to operate at the intersection of creativity, commerce, and performance - while mastering the tools and tactics of modern CRM strategy.

This is a fully remote role supporting a team in the EST time zone and is open to candidates based in Brazil, Portugal, and Spain.

A Day in the Life

  • Lead the execution of email and SMS strategies for a portfolio of DTC/e-commerce clients, working alongside our Associate Directors of Retention to align on goals and priorities.
  • Own the end-to-end campaign deployment process - copywriting, briefing, testing, QA, deployment, and performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to monthly retention marketing calendars and proactively bring creative campaign concepts to clients and internal teams.
  • Lead portions of client calls - presenting content ideas and managing the revision and approval process with confidence.
  • Partner with the in-house design team to shape the creative direction of campaigns and flows, ensuring visual and copy are working together to drive results.
  • Build, audit, and optimize automation flows, pop-up logic, segmentation strategies, and app integrations.
  • Analyze campaign and flow performance and surface actionable recommendations that improve retention KPIs over time.

Who You Are:

We're looking for a Retention Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will write email and SMS marketing copy, build and deploy email and SMS flows and campaigns, and develop content for our e-commerce, DTC clients.

  • You have 3-5 years of experience in email and SMS marketing, lifecycle marketing, or CRM — ideally at a DTC-focused agency or in-house at an e-commerce brand.
  • You're a Klaviyo power user — flows, segmentation, A/B testing, deliverability, and reporting are all in your toolkit.
  • You're a strong copywriter who can adapt tone and voice across different brands and audiences.
  • You think strategically about the customer journey and know how to use retention levers to drive LTV and reduce churn.
  • You’re client-facing and comfortable - you can present a strategy and manage feedback without heavy direction.
  • You're highly organized, self-managed, and used to owning multiple accounts simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have excellent written and verbal English — you communicate with clarity and confidence to both clients and internal stakeholders.

You should apply if this sounds like you

  • You have 3-5 years of experience in email/SMS marketing, growth marketing, or ecommerce CRM.
  • You have agency experience or have worked on multiple client accounts simultaneously.
  • You're a Klaviyo expert — and have the performance results to back it up.
  • You've contributed to client relationships and can present strategy and data to senior stakeholders.
  • You're proactive, creative, and hold yourself to a high standard without needing someone to push you.
  • You're passionate about DTC, ecommerce, and the evolving landscape of lifecycle marketing.
