About the role
Fitt Talent Partners is a specialized recruitment firm for top health and wellness companies.
We’re filling this role for a client, a smart seating company founded by ex-SpaceX and NASA engineers, building dynamic, sensor-driven medical cushions that prevent pressure injuries and restore mobility for wheelchair users.
Role Overview
Hiring a Head of Engineering to lead its entire engineering organization. This is the technical leader who turns a team of exceptionally strong individual contributors into a focused, fast-shipping unit — the glue between leadership's vision and the realities of the lab and the production floor.
Key
Responsibilities
- Lead and hold accountable the entire engineering team — delivery, culture, morale, and accountability are all theirs
- Bridge between leadership and the dev team — strategy gets communicated down, technical constraints get communicated up
- Partner with the CEO and patent attorneys to actively draft and prosecute patents — this is a hands-on responsibility, not a hand-off
- Hire and lead the engineer who will build our cloud connectivity and data platform
- Collaborate closely with operations to ensure engineering decisions support our high-mix, short lead time manufacturing model
- Ensure Sales & Marketing are kept abreast of timing, trade-offs, and impact of asks
- Work with Finance on key programs for financial clarity
Leadership & Culture
- Proven track record of adapting team culture as a company scales — maintaining morale and ensuring accountability through growth.
- Builds teams that understand the customer deeply: engineers who talk to users and build with empathy.
- Breaks down silos between engineering and the rest of the business.
- Holds people accountable with clarity and respect — action items get closed, commitments get kept.
- Holds strong opinions loosely and changes their mind when evidence warrants it.
- Knows when to build vs. buy — allergic to reinventing the wheel.
- Customer-obsessed: passionate about each customer's experience, prioritizing the real need and iterating against it.
Qualifications
- 10+ years engineering experience with 3–5+ years leading engineering teams at a startup or growth-stage company
- Hands-on background in electromechanical systems, embedded firmware, and connected hardware
- Experience taking a hardware product and building the cloud connectivity and data platform around it
- Proven track record of shipping complex hardware/software products on time and to spec
- HIPAA or regulated data environment experience a plus
